When and where are the Rotary International Convention and preconvention events?

The Hamburg Messe und Congress will host the convention’s opening and closing ceremonies and general sessions.

Who can attend the Rotary International Convention?

Registration is open to Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, alumni, Youth Exchange students, club and district employees, and spouses of deceased Rotarians. Guests can also attend at the appropriate fee. See registration fees for all eligible attendees.

Are interpretation services available at the convention?

Rotary provides interpretation in several languages for the opening ceremony, general sessions, and closing ceremony. Some breakout sessions may also be offered in other languages. Refer to your program book to see which sessions are available in your language.

What is the temperature in Hamburg in June?

In June, average temperatures range from 51 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit (10-20 degrees Celsius).

Because the venue will be air-conditioned, you may wish to bring a light jacket or sweater.


How do I register?

Rotarians and Rotaractors can register themselves and their guests online. You can also register at the convention. 

If you plan to attend preconvention events only (Rotaract, Youth Exchange Officers, or Rotary Peace Symposium), register by submitting a registration form via fax (+1-847-556-2194) or mail to Rotary International, 14244 Collections Center Drive, Chicago, IL 60693 USA.

What is the cancellation policy?

A $50 processing fee will be charged for each person’s registration you cancel. This new policy was set by the RI Board of Directors in January 2016 to begin with the 2019 convention. Requests to cancel registrations for the convention or Rotary-ticketed events must be received by 30 April 2019, or you won’t receive a refund. In cases of force majeure, when unforeseen circumstances make it impossible to attend, we will consider refund requests case by case. Cancellations caused by visa denial must be received in writing by 5 June 2019. The $50 processing fee applies to all cancellations. 

How do I register a guest?

You can add or remove a guest from your registration at Make sure you are signed in to My Rotary, and follow the REGISTER link to add a guest to or remove one from your registration.

You can also add or remove sessions, update personal information, have an updated confirmation emailed to you, or, if necessary, cancel your registration.

Why am I being told I’m not eligible to register for the convention?

If you’re having difficulty registering, it might be that:

  • Your club membership needs to be updated. Ask your club president or secretary to make sure you’re listed as an active member of your club in My Rotary.
  • Your club membership is linked to a different email address.Write to to have your My Rotary account associated with your membership.
  • Your My Rotary account status has changed. Sign out of My Rotary and then sign back in.

If you ’ve checked for these possible problems and you still can’t register, contact RI Registration.

Can I request a different assignment for the Opening Ceremony?

No. Assignments for the Opening Ceremony are based on when you register. We can’t fulfill requests to change your assignment. However, if seating is still available after everyone assigned to a ceremony is seated, you may be able to attend.

I cancelled my registration. How can I reregister?

You’ll need to fax or mail the registration form. Unfortunately, you can’t register online after you cancel a registration.

The registration rate that’s in effect when you register again will apply.


How do I reserve a hotel room?

You can get the best value in Hamburg by booking your hotel through Experient, Rotary’s official housing partner.

If you prefer to reserve your hotel by mail or fax, download the individual hotel reservation form and submit it by 25 April (limited availability after this date). Reservations are not accepted by email.

How do I change my hotel reservation, such as my arrival or departure date?

You can change your reservation by going to the official Rotary International hotel reservation site, Experient. Select “Attendee” or “Group Attendee,” and then “Edit Existing Reservation.” Enter your email address and the password you created when you booked your reservation to display your hotel.

What hotels are available, and what are the rates?

Do I need to pay a deposit for my room?

No, but you’ll be asked to provide credit card details to guarantee your reservation. The credit card must be valid through June 2019, and your credit card information will be sent to the hotel with your reservation details in May. Reservations cannot be guaranteed without a credit card.

Group bookings of 15 or more rooms have a separate deposit policy. Please see our group housing guidelines for details.

How do I cancel my reservation?

You can cancel your reservation by going to the official Rotary International hotel reservation site, Experient. Select “Attendee” or “Group Attendee,” click the “Edit Existing Reservation” button, and enter your email address and the password you created when you booked your reservation. Then select the “Cancel Room” icon.

How far from the convention center is my hotel?

You can find a map and a list of hotels on the official Rotary International hotel reservation site, Experient. Choose “Attendee,” and view the map at the bottom or side of the page. Select the “List View” tab to find your hotel’s distance from the Hamburg Messe und Congress Gmbh. Each registered attendee will have complimentary access to Hamburg’s public transportation network. Local transportation

The convention is located in the heart of Hamburg, with Sternschanze and Messenhallen public transportation stations on the grounds. The Hamburg public transit system will be the main mode of transportation for the convention. Attendees will access trains, busses, and ferries with their convention badge.

HVV (bus & rail system)

New this year, Rotary will provide every convention attendee with complimentary access to Hamburg’s public transportation network. The Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV) has an extensive bus, rail, and ferry system, making it easy to travel throughout Hamburg. To get to the Hamburg Messe, the convention venue, take the U3 train to Sternschanze station or the U2 train to Messehallen station.

Please note: There is no shuttle service provided for the Hamburg convention.

What events can I attend at the convention?

The convention registration fee includes:

Opening ceremony: 2 June
General sessions: 3-5 June
Breakout sessions: 3-5 June
Closing ceremony: 5 June
House of Friendship: 1-5 June

You can buy tickets for:

Rotary-ticketed events. These typically take place at the convention venue, either before or during the convention.

Host-ticketed events. These generally take place away from the convention venue.

Are tours of Hamburg available?

Check the Host Organization Committee’s site for tours and ticket availability. No general tours of Hamburg or the region are offered by Rotary.
